Pamukkale
Err... well this was just surreal. Pammukkale means "White Cloud Castle" It is a geological formation formed when minerals dissolved in a nearby spring deposited themsleves while flowing over the side of an embankment. This has been happening since recorded time and above the formations are ruins of both Greek and Roman settlements.
At one point there was a hotel built in the middle of the springs and there has been a lot of construction to pool up and route the mineral water. In short, those parts are ugly and detract from the overall feeling that you are looking at something "natural". But there is certainly enough "real" formations to make it very interesting. The town of Pamukkale is not very appealing and I would suggest moving on after you are done.
One more note, if you want to walk up the formations you have to go barefoot... you will also see your share of ugly European men wearing speedo style bathing suits. The babooshkas didn't both me as much.
Oh, and the Turkish Airforces showed up to do some acrobatics, just adding to the weird scene...
